Our Wine Selection

Henderson Castle Meritage

  • Vintage: 2012
  • Alcohol: 13.24%
  • Residual Sugar(g/100mL): 0.00
  • Titratable acidity(g/100mL): 0.585
  • pH: 3.53
  • Varietal Composition: 45% Merlot / 35% Cabernet Sauvignon / 20% Cabernet Franc
  • Optimum time for consumption: 2015-2019
  • Oak barrels: 10 1/2 months in Hungarian Oak Barrels

The name, an amalgam of merit and heritage, was coined by a small group of American winemakers to identify premium handcrafted wines blended from the traditional noble Bordeaux grape varietals. From this the Meritage Association was formed in 1988.

In January, as the winemaker was preparing red blends for the coming year, it was soon noted that a blend of three of these varieties was superior to any of the wines by themselves. The Cabernet Franc contributes the black cherry fruit flavor, the Cabernet Sauvignon gives a black pepper quality, and the Merlot adds a light earthy fruit character. As expected, no one variety stands out; they all work together to create a harmonious blend of flavors that complement each other.

Henderson Castle Red

  • Non-Vintage
  • Alcohol: 12.32%
  • Residual Sugar(g/100mL): 1.05
  • Titratable acidity(g/100mL): 0.635
  • pH: 3.56
  • Varietal Composition: 85% Chambourcy / 6% Merlot / 9% Cabernet Franc
  • Optimum time for consumption: Within two years

This big, soft red wine shows the right balance between fruitiness and dryness. If you were to age a red wine this would be the end result, a big jammy berry fruit flavor with a subtle backbone of tannin. We have designed this so you do not have to wait five years to enjoy a great glass of red wine.

The Henderson Castle Red pairs well with chicken, red meats or pasta.

Henderson Castle Pinot Grigio

  • Vintage: 2012
  • Alcohol: 12.88%
  • Residual Sugar(g/100mL): 0.00
  • Titratable acidity(g/100mL): 0.592
  • pH: 3.13
  • Varietal Composition: 99% Pinot Grigio / 1% Niagra
  • Optimum time for consumption: 2013-2014

A clean, crisp, dry white wine made in the classic Italian style. Fermented in stainless steel, the delicate fruit characters derived solely from the ripe berries are enhanced allowing apple and peach flavors to come forward on the palate with no lingering after-taste. Pairs wonderfully with seafood, poultry, or pork.

Henderson Castle Chardonnay

  • Vintage: 2013
  • Alcohol: 12.72%
  • Residual Sugar(g/100mL): 0.00
  • Titratable acidity(g/100mL): 0.686
  • pH: 3.28
  • Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay
  • Optimum time for consumption: 2014-2016
  • Production: 485 cases

True Chardonnay reveals the natural taste of Chardonnay, crisp apples, and peaches, without all of the heavy toasty, buttery and vanilla flavors of Chardonnay fermented in oak barrels.

Henderson Castle Riesling

  • Vintage: 2013
  • Alcohol: 11.64%
  • Residual Sugar(g/100mL): 2.01
  • Titratable acidity(g/100mL): 0.753
  • pH: 3.04
  • Varietal Composition: 100% Riesling
  • Optimum time for consumption: 2014-2016

Riesling is a semi-dry white wine with crisp acidity balanced by a touch of natural grape sugar. Some of the best Rieslings from North America come from Michigan and ours rank right up there. Riesling’s light, refreshing character makes it a perfect accompaniment to seafood, chicken and spicy Cajun and Thai dishes. It is also an excellent choice for serving with cheese and fruit.

Henderson Castle Merlot

  • Vintage: 2011
  • Alcohol: 12.00%
  • Residual Sugar(g/100mL): <0.5
  • Titratable acidity(g/100mL): 0.637
  • pH: 3.60
  • Varietal Composition: 92% Merlot / 8% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Optimum time for consumption: 2013-2017
  • Oak barrels: 7-months Hungarian medium toast

This fruit forward dry red wine has the characteristics of black cherry and ripe raspberry flavors combined with a good tannin structure for a medium-long finish. Serve with flavorful foods and meats.
